Past Events & Activities ChildSafe has so many people to thank! Every year our enthusiastic volunteers and board members conduct a wide variety of events and activities that contribute to supporting us with money, services, or help with our programs. We don't want to just foget them when they're past, so this page records some of the important events and activities from recent years. We're still grateful for everybody's help. Santa Claus Visits ChildSafe. 34 ChildSafe client children got to see Santa on December 16 or 17, 2009, thanks to the generosity of Karie and Brian Adema. (Karie is ChildSafe's billing coordinator.) Thanks to Realties for Children. In December 2009, their 14th Annual Bikes For Tykes program provided bikes to 31 of ChildSafe's young clients. Fine & Funky – Christmas Shop for ChildSafe Day. This charming Timnath accessory shop held a special sale day on December 5, 2009, and donated 25% of all sales proceeds to ChildSafe. Our thanks to Fine & Funky's owner Megan Barz for her generosity! Thanksgiving Turkey Drawing for ChildSafe Clients. On November 19, 2009, a drawing was held in which nine of our clients won turkeys for their Thanksgiving dinner. Many thanks to Karie and Brian Adema for generously providing the turkeys for this event. ChildSafe Wish List Collection Week. During the week of November 9-13, 2009, local branches of the Bank of Colorado and Bank of the West served as collection points for donations of items on our wish list. Thanks to ChildSafe board members Wanda Zimmerman of Bank of the West and Christian Bordewick of Bank of Colorado for arranging this useful service! | ||
Hewlett-Packard 2009 Make-a-Difference-Day team: On October 23, 2009, a crew of 18 HP Fort Collins employees, led by Kelly Hall, spent 10 hours on Make-A-Difference Day helping to rejuvenate ChildSafe's facilities. Among the things they did for us: Raked and bagged leaves, painted wood trim, replaced laminate trim, unstuck and cleaned windows, moved supply cabinet, cleaned closet and installed slelves, cleaned all carpets and rugs, cleaned all blinds, and disinfected the play rooms and all the toys. Again this year, the HP crew really did make a difference! Thank you, Hewlett-Packard!!
Macy's coupon sales event. Thanks to Macy's Department Store for the opportunity to benefit ChildSafe through a coupon sale event on purchases made on October 17, 2009. Big sale of Aloe Vera plants. In September 2009, ChildSafe volunteers sold an astonishing number and variety of aloe vera plants, grown for the purpose by ChildSafe supporter Jean Yule, at the PVHS Garage Sale and farmers' markets. All proceeds went to ChildSafe. Mary Kay party for ChildSafe. Mary Kay representative Yvonne Paez generously donated all her profits from a September 13, 2009, sales party to ChildSafe.
This fabulous "Heart Strings" quilt was made and donated by members of the Rocky Mountain Quilt Foundation for the benefit of ChildSafe. In spring 2009 this large, active group of fabric artists turned their talents toward helping ChildSafe. A team of 17 quilters led by Kelly Gallagher-Abbott made individual quilts for ChildSafe kids (who were understandably thrilled!), and then they collaborated on this entry for the Hoffman Challenge, a prestigious annual contest and traveling exhibit of fabric arts. In July 2009, ChildSafe volunteers exhibited the quilt and sold raffle tickets for it at the SummerFest of the Rockies event. Then in August 2009, the quilt was exhibited and raffled off at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Festival at The Ranch Events Center; Joanne Kresl was the lucky winner. All proceeds (over $3000) went to ChildSafe. Child-care providers from the Fort Collins Police Services' Victims Assistance Team: From spring through fall 2009, a team of nine volunteers from the Fort Collins Police Services' Victims Assistance Team immensely helped ChildSafe by providing supervision and care for children whose parents were attending ChildSafe meetings.
April 2009: FACES Project, a collaborative art show at Fort Collins' Poudre River Arts Center between ChildSafe and SAVA (Sexual Assault Victim Advocates), showing the healing process through the art of ChildSafe clients and the photos of SAVA's survivors. Thanks to SAVA for all their help!
Poudre High School mural-painting team: In March and April 2009, a team of six students from Poudre High School invested many hours over several weekends to create a wall mural in the basement hallway leading to ChildSafe's play therapy area. Poudre High student Justin Field was the artistic designer and led the project; Lynn Lutkin was the project organizer and a key element in bringing it to completion. The results were wonderful! See more pictures on the Photo Tour page.Hewlett-Packard 2008 Make-a-Difference-Day team: On October 23, 2008, a crew of 23 HP employees from Fort Collins, led by Erik Lillestolen and Adaora Onyia, spent Make-A-Difference Day helping to upgrade ChildSafe's facilities. Among the things they did for us: Install laminate flooring in waiting room and hallway, paint 3 rooms, paint cabinet and woodwork, install new light fixture, sanitize all toys from two play therapy rooms, clean loveseat with professional upholstry cleaner, wash the windows inside and out. All in one frenzied 8-hour day! Boy, they really DID make a difference! September 2008: Family Summit – Day for Kids, an event at The Ranch sponsored by the Healthier Communities Coalition of Larimer County where families could learn about the resources available to them in our community. ChildSafe had a popular booth where kids could make colorful bookmarks and their parents could read about our organization. April 2008: Parade of Dreams Preview, a fundraiser for area charities. Prior to the mid-May opening of the 2008 Parade of Dreams at Thompson Crossing in Johnstown, CO, Stoner Co. hosted a fund-raising event at its $2.5 million home to benefit ChildSafe and five other Northern Colorado charities. Guests enjoyed food and drink and got to preview Parade homes before the official event.
